HUDSON PRIDE CONNECTIONS CENTER ANNOUNCES
DEPARTURE OF EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
JERSEY CITY, NJ – Nancy Caamaño, Executive Director of Hudson Pride Connections Center will be leaving the Center on October 31, 2011. Ms. Caamaño has served Hudson Pride in various roles since 2005, including Project Manager, Director of Programs, and most currently, as the Executive Director. She has contributed to the organization’s rising prominence as an unwavering advocate for our LGBT community and individuals impacted by HIV and AIDS.
Celebrating its 18th anniversary as a social service provider and 4th anniversary as an LGBT community center with its own building, Hudson Pride has grown to become Hudson County’s only LGBT multi-service organization. It has five programmatic focus areas: YouthConnect, which serves LGBT teens and young adults; SAGE Northern NJ, which serves the needs of LGBT individuals over 50; HIV Linkage to Care, which links HIV positive people into primary medical care; Community Connect Training and Education Program, which provides LGBT and HIV sensitivity and educational workshops to local service providers and the community at large; and the Hudson Pride Festival and Parade to fulfill the cultural needs of the LGBT communities.
During her time at Hudson Pride, Ms. Caamaño has increased the infrastructure of the organization by developing its staff and volunteer base and growing its community involvement and support. In the fall of 2010, she was responsible for attaining county-based funding for an energy conservation project to renovate the 100 year-old three-story Victorian house Hudson Pride calls home. In the spring of 2011, the Center launched the first ever New Jersey based Chapter of SAGE, a program which serves the needs of LGBT individuals over 50. In addition, under her leadership, the organization has become the lead organizer of the local Jersey City Pride Festival and expanded it to encompass all of Hudson County. The 11th Annual Hudson Pride Festival and Parade will take place on Sunday, October 9th at One Exchange Place.
“Nancy Caamaño is a visionary leader who has been the driving force of the Center for the past 5 years,” said board member Liz Edman. “Her vision, perseverance and dedication to Hudson Pride have been extraordinary and has put us in exactly the right place to move into even higher levels of service to the LGBT and HIV-affected communities. We will miss her, and we will build on the foundation she helped establish at Hudson Pride.”
Board Treasurer, Jonathan Lucas, who has been serving as Director of Operations since July, will step in as Interim Executive Director while the search for a new Executive Director begins. “As part of this succession plan, I have spent the last few months learning the ins and outs of the great work that the Center does. I am thrilled to be able to work with our Board in finding our next leader,” says Mr. Lucas.
“We have a group of dedicated Board of Directors who recently conducted an in-depth organizational analysis which has further strengthened our focus in meeting the ever-changing needs of our diverse community,” says Ms. Caamaño. Leaving Hudson Pride after five years was not an easy decision to make; however, I am confident our board leadership will provide a bright future for the Center.
On Saturday October 29th, the Board of Directors will host a Farewell Party at Hudson Pride Connections Center on 32 Jones Street from 7pm-11pm to celebrate Ms. Caamaño’s successes.
Hudson Pride Connections Center, a 501c3 community benefit organization founded in 1993, exists to bridge the gap in services and respond to the unmet needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, & transgender community, as well as HIV positive people of any orientation or identity, through supportive social services, prevention, outreach, advocacy and development trainings for other service providers, to educate, empower, and unite all of our communities. JERSEY CITY, NJ – The 2011 Hudson Pride Week festivities will begin next week with the raising of the Rainbow Flag-the symbol of Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Pride-above City Hall and The Hudson County Court House in Jersey City. Hudson Pride Connections Center (HPCC) is proud to be the host organization of the 11th Annual LGBT Pride Festival and Parade on August 27th and all the Pride events leading up to the big event.
On Monday, August 22nd, at 5:30 pm, the LGBT flag will be raised at the courthouse on the corner of Newark and Baldwin Avenues. The Hudson County Executive Thomas A. DeGise will preside over the event, and other community leaders will be present as well. At that time, we will be honoring three important members of the Hudson Pride family with Proclamations of Achievement from the county. David Bimbi, from Hoboken, NJ, has dedicated his time and knowledge to the HPCC Board since 2000, and has been the Board President since 2005. Gene Aguirre, HPCC’s Volunteer Coordinator, has been rallying volunteers and has generously given his time and energy to the Pride festivals and events since 2008. The Jersey Boys of Leather are HPCC partners in the community and recently held the Kulture For Kids Art Auction, which was successful in raising funds for HPCC’s YouthConnect, Hudson County’s only LGBTQ social services program for youth 13-25. There will be a reception at the HPCC, located at 32 Jones Street, Jersey City, following the ceremony.
On Tuesday, August 23rd, at 5:00 pm, the LGBT flag will be raised at City Hall, Balcony Level. City Hall is located at 280 Grove Street. Community leaders will be at this event to show their support of the LGBT community in our city. “I am proud to celebrate Pride here in Jersey City and look forward to the raising of the Gay Pride Flag once again at City Hall. The people of Jersey City and Hudson County have always been supportive of their LGBT neighbors and that is why our community thrives. I hope everyone will come out and celebrate with us. Our diversity and our respect for each other is what make our city an amazing place to live.” Ray Velazquez, Councilman at Large, says.
Pride Week festivities culminate with the 11th Annual LGBT Pride Festival and Parade on Saturday, August 27th. The parade will kick off at 11 am in front of City Hall and will proceed to Exchange Place, the site of the festival. We hope the Hudson Pride community will join us for live entertainment, food, raffles, and fun!
Nancy Caamaño, Executive Director of HPCC, says, “I am proud and excited that HPCC is the host organization of the LGBT Festival and Parade. I have been honored by all the generosity and support we have received from the community leaders, merchants, and volunteers, who are equally excited about the Pride celebrations and this year’s festival. It’s going to be a great success because we are all working together to make it the best one yet!”

The addition of another executive level position will help the organization realize the promise of this moment.
As Director of Operations, Lucas will focus on consolidating and strengthening the core services of the organization, including support to LGBT youth and seniors, as well as HIV prevention and referral. Lucas will also continue to build the Center’s role as the hub of LGBT activity in Hudson County, and will continue to develop strategic partnerships with LGBT cultural and political organizations. His work will allow Caamaño to focus on diversifying the organization’s fundraising and on completing preparations for the Pride Festival being held on Saturday, August 27th at Exchange Place in Jersey City. .
Lucas brings to this position years of experience as a market research and information management executive, who has a strong record of success in leading marketing, sales and technology teams to improved decision-making based on sound analytics, new customer insights, and market trends. He has spent the past seven years at Pfizer Specialty Pharmaceuticals, where he worked first as Director of Information Science and then for four years as Director of Market Analytics. For the past year, Lucas has served on the Board of Directors at Hudson Pride Connections Center. He has taken a leave of absence from the Board in order to step in to the Director of Operations role for the Center. A Jersey City resident for the past 5 years, Lucas is thrilled to offer his expertise to an organization that provides much needed services in his own backyard
