Gelen Almonte is a Latinx PrEP Counselor for the Hudson Pride Center. In her role, Gelen focuses on PrEP education, awareness, and access for PrEP-eligible folks (regardless of insurance or legal status) who are at risk of HIV infection, providing direct connection and support to LGBTQ+ affirming healthcare providers, community outreach, and network planning.

In 2021, Gelen obtained her Associate Degree in Psychology from Laguardia Community College. Prior to joining Hudson Pride Center, Gelen worked for North Hudson Community Action Corporation, where she focused on supporting clients with medical appointments, applications for insurance, and other health and support resources and information. She proudly worked to alleviate and navigate existing language barriers for many of the clients who utilized NHCA for health-related needs. In her free time, you can always find her marathoning Harry Potter or eating any candy she can find. Gelen grew up being the younger sister of three boys from whom she learned two things, the first one – TO SURVIVE – and the second – TO LOVE UNCONDITIONALLY-.
