Gelen Almonte is is a Wellness Specialist at Hudson Pride Center. In her role, Gelen focuses on empowering individuals to take control of their health by providing free, confidential, rapid HIV testing. Once individuals know their HIV status, Gelen connects them to vital services, including PrEP, nPEP, Doxy PEP, mental health support, and linkage to care for those newly diagnosed with HIV.

Gelen earned her Associate Degree in Psychology from LaGuardia Community College in 2021. Since joining Hudson Pride Center a year ago, she has made significant contributions to the physical and mental well-being of the community. One of her notable achievements is facilitating Viviendo Los Colores, a Spanish-language support group for LGBTQ+ and Latinx community members aged 21 and over. This group provides a safe space for community support, mental health resources, and connection.

In her free time, Gelen can often be found marathoning Harry Potter or indulging her sweet tooth with any candy in sight. Growing up as the youngest of four siblings—and the only girl—she learned two invaluable lessons: how to survive and how to love unconditionally.
