Max Laffend is a licensed social worker and a client service counselor at Hudson Pride Center. They have been working with the LGBTQ community in Jersey City, NJ since 2015 and their role as an integrated staff member of HPC combines linkage to care and prevention for people who are living with HIV or who could benefit from HIV prevention. Through their involvement with HPC they have presented at both local community education events as well as larger events such as the National Conference on Social Work and HIV/AIDS in Washington D.C.
Their direct work with LGBTQ+ individuals includes helping them navigate health care systems and overcome barriers to care. This has taken the form of developing databases of local LGBTQ+ affirming providers, linking providers to cultural awareness training, and contacting providers directly to advocate on their client’s behalf.
